I Am Light – Therefore I Will
Explore with me a verse that calls us to understand God’s question to Elijah.
1 Kings 19:13
New American Standard Bible
13 When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. And behold, a voice came to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
What- is asking the purpose for being inside a cave?
Are – is asking why now?
You – is questioning why you, of all people Elijah, would be hiding here?
Doing – is asking Elijah what plans he has going forward.
Here – is questioning his unusual choice of places to be.
If you were Elijah, how would you hear what God was saying?
Come on, Elijah, what’s your reason for being in this cave now when I just answered your prayers on Mount Carmel? Didn’t you see the fire I sent to burn up the offering when you asked, the rain, or the strength I gave you to run the twenty miles to King Ahab’s palace gates? What do you hope to accomplish here? Am I not greater than Jezebel’s promise to kill you?
Isn’t this precisely what our Father asks us? Jesus says,
I AM LIGHT. Therefore I Will…
You often choose to hide away in a dark cave, not realizing I have heard your prayers and rescued you from the clutches of the enemy more times than you know. Step out of the dark, for I WILL cover you with the marvelous light of my presence. Miracles await you in the LIGHT.
