The Fear of Truth
Fear of the Truth paralyzes the world’s population. How many searches for meaning in a dried-up cistern or hollow teachings, theories, and speculations and find no purpose? Scouring the earth for a reason to exist, never finding rest. This empty condition has a stranglehold on the masses.
What causes this inane kind of living? Luke 24: the last part of verse 5 holds the answer.
Luke 24:5
New International Version
“Why do you look for the living among the dead?”
We keep looking in the wrong places for security, depending on what doesn’t last to hold us up. There’s no lasting life in things assigned for destruction.
Let’s look at the truth. Right before Jesus’ crucifixion, Pilate asks Jesus, “What is truth?” but doesn’t wait for the answer. We cannot find truth in the things of this world because the truth is a person, Jesus Christ. Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
We fear the truth because it means we must face ourselves. Our human nature shrinks from anything that reveals the good, the bad, and the ugly. The devil wants to conceal our actual state of being. However, Jesus promises the truth shall set us free.
John 8:32
New International Version
32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Everything in this world is temporal. People, position, wealth, and power all pass away. We build bigger and bigger houses and acquire land to accumulate wealth, to no avail. We remain empty still.
Our only hope and security lie in the One who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Make Jesus your best friend today, and live a life that lasts forever.
