What do You Expect?
I have written on the subject of expectations before. I feel compelled to reexamine the magnitude of its influence on behavior. All relationships rise and fall on our definition of the word. So much depends on understanding what you expect of others or what others expect from you.
Relationships are bound to fail when you look for some finite being to fulfill your wants and needs. Most marriages can’t survive because of failed expectations. Someone is not living up to predetermined assumptions, whether a spouse, girlfriend, friend, boyfriend, parent, sibling, employee, or boss.
Don’t look for someone or something to make you happy; look for someone you can make happy. It becomes reciprocal. You wind up blessed and joyful when you apply good deeds with love. We all run into trouble when our focus is waiting on others to supply our wants.
Set yourself aside and make a plan to bring joy into another’s life today. How about extending that to everyone you meet and letting me know how that turns out for you?
Hebrews 13:16
And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices, God is pleased.
