To Know Him
I have been called an over-the-top Jesus lover. Is this a person who has Jesus on their mind continuously? The insinuation leads me to think this is not a good thing. Frankly, I believe it to be the only thing.
Mark 12:30
Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”
I can’t speak for you, but to me, this verse encompasses my entire being. All that I love occupies my heart, my soul enwraps my whole personality, my mind takes up all my thinking, and my strength employs all my application resources. I have nothing left for secularism.
If Christ has all of me, then the world has none of me, right?
You ask, “How can I love Jesus to the extent Mark 12:30 requires”? My desire to be filled up with Jesus means surrendering me to Him. I must stop looking at what I am not, stop trying to make it happen, stop struggling over what should be happening, and fall helplessly at Jesus’ feet with the plea for help. As I storm the throne room of God, the Father rains His mercy.
A love relationship with Christ does not come from trying to force a connection to happen but by calling on His merciful power to change my heart. When will I ever learn the truth? I can do nothing! Even the desire to know Him is God-given.
Jesus, Himself said, By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me. John 5:30
I must take myself out of the fight. Jesus is not concerned about what I am doing or not doing as He is my heart’s desire for Him. Christ surrendered to His Father’s will in all things. That doesn’t mean I lose when surrendering my will, but I gain everything my heart has longed for and never realized.
The promise says:
Lamentations 3:22-23
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
His mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
The leper said to Jesus, “If You are willing, You can make me clean, and Jesus touched him and said, I am willing.” -Ask! Ask Him to reveal Himself to you, dear reader, with a sincere heart, and He will. There are no prayers to know Him left unanswered.
Jesus has forever been all about you and me. Because of that love, eternity is all about Him. He went to the cross with us on His mind and in His heart.
