Peace Above the Din
Focusing on Jesus rather than the jarring outbursts of the world around us is not easy. The seething waves of hatred and angry shouts from every corner of society make concentration difficult. Yet, this is what Jesus has challenged us to accomplish.
Sometimes it seems I am locked in a room full of five and six-year-olds running and screaming while playing tag. On my front porch stands a lady singing the national anthem in a shrill operatic voice. My backyard is filled with competing drummers expecting me to pick the best of the bunch.
I have found focusing on Jesus quiets the deafening noises that overtake my senses. He calms my spirit with the soothing sound of His voice. An old hymn comes to mind. Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face and the things of this earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.
I’m learning daily what it means to rise above the clamber and turbulence to find peace in His presence.
