For as Long as I Can

For as Long as I Can

For as long as I can see…
I’ll behold the mighty mountain’s crest,
the stalwart evergreen, and the innocent face of a child.
I will watch the galaxy’s children in their ordained course across the sky.
I will observe nature’s obedience to the voice of God.
… And I will grow.

For as long as I can hear…
I’ll listen for the contented harmonies of joyful exaltation
as each bird greets the day’s new beginning.
I’ll strain to hear the tinkling of the poplar leaves
as the wind moves and undulates its way unseen.
And in the twilight, I shan’t miss the cricket’s call to rest.
… And I will sleep.

For as long as I can touch…
I will hold the hand of a friend in times of grief and sorrow,
snuggle and wriggle with a pup, and touch the fuzzy pussy willow.
I’ll seek the cooling of river water rushing over me,
and caress the skin of a newborn baby’s cheek.
I’ll slip into crisp, clean sheets, and snuggle in the warmth of a winter coat.
… For I am blessed.

For as long as I can praise…
I will speak of the glorious love offered by a selfless God.
I will sit in the presence of my Master as He explains the mysteries of His
mind and sing along with the flowering desert, the majesty of our King.
I will honor Him with this earthen vessel of clay for as long as I live.
… For He is worthy.
