What is awaiting you in heaven?

Today I was watching the clouds and wondered, Will there be clouds there, in heaven? And later I realized how my wish for heaven has shifted since I was young.

After I got a job and left home, I looked forward to the holidays. I envisioned Thanksgiving and Christmas with the family gathered around a table laden with laughter and food. I mostly looked forward to seeing the ones I loved, and I knew they were eager to see me.

Home is a place of warmth and safety; a place where I belong.

I still think of going home. My heavenly home. But now it’s not the streets of gold or a mansion on a hilltop that draws me, as I dreamed in childhood. It is home because I know someone, there, who is waiting for me, and I know He is as eager to see me as I am to see Him.

On Resurrection morning, I will embrace again those cherished ones that share in my devotion to our Saviour. And that causes a longing to feast around the banqueting table once again. This time, it’s the marriage supper of the Lamb — a celebration as no other. There, laughter, friends, and family; abundant, glorious food of a new kind and color will greet us.

I long for that place!  Because home is not just a dwelling or destination, but Who is there waiting, that makes it home.

Philippians 3:20-21 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
