When You Feel Something is Wrong
What is that nagging, uncomfortable awareness that something is out of sync? Most times we shut it out; unaware it exists and go on doing what we do. It can continue for days or even years before we address what’s bothering us. It happened again today when I noticed the annoying sensation that something was wrong.
A friend and I had a conversation on a topic we both knew we shared different points of view. So different, that before we noticed, the discussion got passionate and ended when she had to leave. I have learned that when I fall victim to that irritating, subconscious inkling that all is not well, there’s a matter I haven’t dealt with yet. When I don’t know what’s bugging me, I’ve come to realize the need to stop and ask God what’s going on with me. And He never fails to answer the question. It was easy to figure out I needed to make a phone call to my friend.
There are times we resist God’s promptings because we don’t want to change, or forgive, or face the imagined results and we find ourselves wrestling with God. Avoidance is the most unsatisfactory condition to allow. No matter how you look at it, you’re bound to lose. Obedience to the Father’s promptings always turns out better than ignoring His voice.
It took a long time to recognize I fight with God too often. It helps to acknowledge my behavior is working against me; that obedience brings resolution.
1 Corinthians 14:33 NIV
For God is a God not of disorder but of peace.
2 John 1:6 NIV
And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.
