To Know God’s Will-Day Four
“How can I know what God wants? He’s God. I have no idea what He thinks about me or His will for my life. I take things as they come and hope everything turns out okay.”
Even among Christians, I’d wager a high percentage think these kinds of thoughts.
Here are a few questions to help identify God’s intentions:
- If God is good, does His will give us the best?
Matthew 7:11 New International Version (NIV)
“11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”
2 Corinthians 9:8-11 New International Version (NIV)
“8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”
- If God’s will is for our success, does He supply the means to attain the goal?
1 Samuel 18:14 New International Version (NIV)
“14 In everything he did he had great success, because the Lord was with him.”
“It is better to fail in a cause that will ultimately succeed than to succeed in a cause that will ultimately fail.” – Peter Marshall
Philippians 4:19 Amplified Bible (AMP)
“19 And my God will liberally supply (fill until full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
- Can I trust God?
Psalm 36:5-6 The Message (MSG)
“5-6 God’s love is meteoric,
his loyalty astronomic,
His purpose titanic,
his verdicts oceanic.
Yet in his largeness
nothing gets lost;
Not a man, not a mouse,
slips through the cracks.”
Psalm 37:23-24 (NIV)
“The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.”
- Will God leave me to struggle on my own?
Deuteronomy 31:8
“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. ‘Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.’”
Isaiah 42:16 New International Version (NIV)
“16 I will lead the blind by ways they have not known,
along unfamiliar paths I will guide them;
I will turn the darkness into light before them
and make the rough places smooth.
These are the things I will do;
I will not forsake them.”
