“You can do it!” “Just will it into existence!” “The power is YOURS!”
Many people believe they can overcome weaknesses, acquire wealth, and achieve success primarily through the exercise of the will. They assume we innately possess the ability to govern and control our own lives. Hard work and determination can sometimes attain these things, but our attempts to gain inner “riches,” such as patience, compassion, and freedom from fear, often fall short or miserably fail altogether. We find that these ideals are what God alone can flawlessly accomplish in us.
The total transformation God works within us can best be described as “to make like new” or “to rebuild and restore.” In the very beginning, God perfectly created man with pure and holy aspirations. However, since the tragic Fall in the Garden of Eden, we have found ourselves struggling against a dark Enemy who is “hell-bent” on destroying us—body, mind, and soul!
To BE genuinely and eternally transformed requires Someone outside of Self.
As we abide in Jesus, or immerse ourselves in His presence, staying tightly connected to Him; He goes to work revamping our minds to BE content, patient, pure, and filled with the Holy Spirit. The Bible is replete with guidance on how to beautifully BE. These attributes do not come naturally to us humans. Their source is solely found in the recreative power of God Almighty.
Romans 12:1-2 The Message
So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your every day, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
