In The Midst Of The Fire

Blessed Are You When Obedience Make Miracles Possible

In the province of Babylon on the plain of Dura, King Nebuchadnezzar erected a gold image ninety feet high and nine feet wide. He summoned the provincial officials to its dedication. At the sound of music, they were to bow down and worship this golden spectacle. The cost of nonparticipation was being thrown into a fiery furnace.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stood their ground. Not a muscle moved. As expected, they were summoned to stand before the King. Nebuchadnezzar had favored these three, but noncompliance humiliated him, making him angry. On being given a second chance, these men responded without hesitation. “Oh, Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and He will rescue us from your hand, O King. But even if He does not, we want you to know, O King, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”How dare these Jewish delinquents ignore his command!” Because of his humiliation in view of the attending dignitaries he ordered his soldiers to increase the furnace heat by seven.

Implicit trust in God put Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fire. Not until they were in the midst of the blaze was the Son of God seen standing beside His boys. Now Nebuchadnezzar’s face looked quite different. Utter disbelief halted his rage, for what he saw was impossible, but it was, just the same. In the midst of the fire were now four men, not three, and the fourth looked like the Son of God.

Three men’s readiness to sacrifice themselves for obedience made it possible for God to demonstrate His faithfulness to them.
He awaits the few willing to be cast into the fire of affliction in order for Him to reveal Himself. The one who makes possible the impossible; the one who tosses logic aside for your and my saving intervention. To win the hearts of those who do not believe, the fire becomes a privilege.

Isaiah 41:13
13 For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

Deuteronomy 31:6
3. “Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.”

2 Corinthians 1:3-4
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,
4 who comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
