How To Fly
Blessed Are Those Who Struggle Not, For They Shall Fly.
When I was young, I used to have dreams that I could fly. Ever had those kinds of dreams? I don’t know how to analyze a child’s ambition for doing something supernatural, but it wasn’t all that rewarding because in my dreams it took a laborious effort just to get off the ground. Not only that, but the whole reason for taking flight was to escape the clutches of some unknown assailant in hot pursuit of nabbing me. I would struggle and struggle to stay aloft. The “bad guy” would jump as high as he could to catch a hold of my shirt, but as long as I sucked my tummy in I was just out of his reach.
The one thing I notice in reviewing these traumatizing events was that the effort was all on me. It seemed to me I had to keep up the struggle to stay above the hands seeking to destroy me.
I can’t say what that meant for me as a child, but I know precisely what that means for me now.
All my efforts to stay out of the reach of the enemy will consistently end up in my falling into the very hole he so graciously dug for me.
Here is the good news. I don’t have to struggle against evil. I don’t have to try and try to stay above the enemy’s grasp. All that is required of me is to rest in my heavenly Father’s hands. No, don’t say “but” or “what if.” That’s all, that’s it. There you have it.
John 10:28-30New International Version (NIV)
28 “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.
Lets all of us paste this text on our bathroom mirror.
Exodus 14:14New International Version (NIV)
14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
So, I have to take a look at what’s going on in my life. Is there an area of struggle there? Has the enemy found an entrance where he is battling against me?
But if I take the “I” out of the equation, that leaves only God who is left to handle the “bad guy.”
The more I trust in His words, the easier it will become to believe them, for He is Truth. A Blessing indeed!
